In as little as three months, the United States lost track of around 1,400 children that they placed in the homes of sponsors. When the ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) decided to check up on a large amount of unaccompanied children, they were unable to find out where they were. They had discovered though, that 28 of the children run away. The HHS (Health and Human Services) claimed that they weren’t responsible, but ORR stated that, in fact, they were. However the HHS and the ORR worked together to provide shelter, food, healthcare, clothing, and education for the children. This commotion also brought attention to reports that immigrant children were being separated from their families at the US border.
